VP Sara paharapin na sa trial - prosec

MANILA, Philippines — Nais ng prosecution panel na si Vice President Sara Duterte na mismo ang ipatawag sa witness stand upang linawin ang iba’t ibang usapin, kabilang ang umano’y maling paggamit ng confidential funds.

Sa manifestation nitong Martes ni private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan, sinabi nito na isasantabi na nila ang pagharap ng 15 sa 27 saksi para sa Article I at sa halip ay irereserba ang karapatang ipatawag si Duterte sa Senate Impeachment Court upang tanungin siya tungkol sa lahat ng articles.

Giit ni Kapunan, sapat na ang mga ebidensyang naiprisinta upang tumumbok kay VP Duterte bilang pangunahing dapat managot. Gumamit pa siya ng analohiya at inilarawan si Duterte bilang “reyna” at ang mga testigo bilang mga piyesa sa chess board na lahat ay nakaturo sa iisang tao.

“All of these pawns and castles and horses and bishop, point to only one person, and that accountable person is the Vice President. And that is why your Honor, in lieu of presenting 15 other witnesses, we will be presenting the Vice President herself as regards misuse, misappropriation of confidential funds, which is Article I of the Articles of Impeachment,” dagdag ni Kapunan.

Binigyang-diin pa niya na ang testimonya ng Land Bank witness ay nagpapatunay na totoong na-withdraw ang confidential funds, dahilan upang hindi na iprisinta ang iba pang testigo.

“Originally your Honor prosecution intended and this is so stated in our pretrial brief, 27 witnesses […] thus far we presented 10, and stipulated two other witnesses, rendering unnecessary their personal presence in court. All these lead — that’s why I started with a metaphor of all of these actors in the chess board, point to only one person,” ani Kapunan sa ika-23 araw ng paglilitis.

Kabilang sa mga hindi na ipiprisinta ang tatlong testigo na sina P/Major Jovelyn Magay, Sunshine Fajarda, at Bresildo Sabaldan.

Nang tanungin ni Presiding Officer at senator-judge Francis Escudero kung hihiling sila ng subpoena para kay Duterte, sinabi ni Kapunan na hindi pa sila hihingi nito sa ngayon dahil tatawagin nila ang Bise Presidente sa pagtatapos ng presentasyon para sa lahat ng articles.

“Not at this time your Honor […] the testimony of the Vice President will be material to all four articles, the article on grave threats, Article IV, Article I on misuse and misappropriation of confidential funds, Article II on unexplained wealth, and Article III on bribery. And that is why, at the end of all of these articles, we reserve the right to present the Vice President herself,” dagdag niya.
