MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala’s mixed doubles debut turned out to be a forgettable one.

This, after the Filipina sensation and partner Felix Augur-Aliassime of Canada had a quick night in the US Open mixed doubles at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York.

The pair got outclassed by the husband-and-wife tandem of Gael Monfils of France and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, 4-1, 4-1, in their opening-round match.

The World No. Eala had been seeing action in doubles, but it was her first time playing in the mixed event, being paired with the ATP World No. 4 Augur-Aliassime.

The early mixed doubles exit though gives Eala plenty of time to focus on the US Open singles main draw.
