VP impeachment trial canceled today
MANILA, Philippines — Day 17 of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte is canceled today, according to Senate impeachment Clerk of Court Renato Bantug Jr., upon the orders of Presiding Officer Sen. Francis Escudero due to the expected heavy rains.
“In view of the anticipated continued heavy rainfall associated with enhanced southwest Monsoon and upon the instruction of the Presiding Officer, trial scheduled on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, is hereby canceled,” the notice read.
Yesterday, both the House of Representatives and Senate canceled their plenary sessions, citing the inclement weather, as House secretariat officials and employees continued to work from home, except those whose physical presence was necessary. — Delon Porcalla
