Danao City mayor reports infra, social services gains

CEBU, Philippines — Danao City Mayor Ramon Durano III highlighted infrastructure, social services, education, and economic development initiatives during his 2026 State of the City Address (SOCA), while outlining his administration’s long-term vision for a more connected and resilient city.

Delivering his address on July 28 during the 18th Sangguniang Panlungsod’s 50th Regular Session in Barangay Masaba, Durano said his administration remains guided by its 5-Point Connectivity Agenda aimed at sustaining the city’s growth.

The mayor reported that the city completed 99 infrastructure projects, has 14 ongoing, and has another 21 lined up, including waterworks, flood control, roads, bridges, and the Merkado sa Danao, which is 80 percent complete and expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.

Durano also highlighted expanded health and social services, the establishment of Cebu Province’s first Early Childhood Care and Development Office, continued support for 555 city scholars, and the expansion of free Wi-Fi to all 42 barangays.

He said nearly 2,000 residents benefited from skills training, while investments from major industries and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises continued to boost employment and economic activity.

On governance, Durano cited reforms promoting transparency, improved public service, and citizen participation.

He also reported a seven-percent average increase in local revenue collection and the approval of the city’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which he said would help attract investments and support the goal of becoming a first-class city.

Commenting on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address, Durano expressed hope that the national government would prioritize disaster recovery, job creation, and the rehabilitation of national infrastructure in Danao damaged by Typhoon Tino.

Following the SOCA, the 18th Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution commending Durano for his performance during the first year of his 2025–2028 term. Governor Pamela Baricuatro also extended her congratulations through a video message. (CEBU NEWS)
