ICTSI Pinewoods Challenge unwraps: Accuracy is key

BAGUIO, Philippines — The ICTSI Pinewoods Challenge, the third stop of the Philippine Golf Tour and the Ladies PGT, fires off today with Pinewoods’ rolling terrain and deceptively small greens providing the challenge for the field led by veteran Tony Lascuña.
“One careless swing can easily lead to a bogey or worse because trouble is always waiting. Accuracy will be more important than distance this week,” said Lascuña, after topping the 18-hole pro-am with amateur partners Jaime Pisawan, Amor Paredes and Bensheen Apolinar with a net 58.
Many players used the pro-am to map out their yardages and identify ideal landing spots on a course that demands strategic thinking for a four-day battle featuring the country’s leading professionals, rising stars and international campaigners.
Joining Lascuña in the title hunt is Angelo Que, who seeks back-to-back victories after edging the former in a thrilling finish at Caliraya Springs last month.
The Ladies Philippine Golf Tour also fires off today, featuring headliners Yvon Bisera and Harmie Constantino, both hungry to become the season’s first two-time winners.
But in their way is a hungry pack that includes Princess Superal, Sarah Ababa, Chanelle Avaricio, Mafy Singson, Tiffany Lee and Daniella Uy – all determined to break into the winner’s circle in this early stretch of the 10-stage circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.
