Psychiatric exam for mom accused of throwing baby out window
NEW YORK — A New York judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a woman charged with throwing her 6-month-old daughter to her death from a sixth-floor window.
Tenisha Fearon appeared Friday in a Bronx court, where she was arraigned on a murder charge and held without bail.
The judge ordered her placed in protective custody. Her attorney asked that she be placed there only if necessary because he didn't want her to be isolated.
The lawyer didn't respond to a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
Prosecutors say Fearon threw Janillah Lawrence naked from the window to her death as her other children watched in horror.
The case is the third in three months where a mother has been accused of throwing her infant out a window.
