License of nurse who reused syringes for flu shots suspended

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — A nurse accused of reusing syringes while giving flu shots to 67 patients at a pharmaceutical company in New Jersey has had her license temporarily suspended.

The state Attorney General's Office said Thursday that the nurse voluntarily surrendered her license Wednesday. She isn't able to practice nursing in the state pending a further ruling from the state's board of nursing.

Officials say the risk of infection is low. Syringes — not needles — that hold the vaccine were reused. Officials recommend testing for hepatitis B and C and HIV.

Officials say it happened Sept. 30 when the TotalWellness contractor administered vaccines to 67 workers at Otsuka Pharmaceutical in West Windsor.

TotalWellness says it's working to notify patients and get them resources for potential medical risks.
