NY offers $14.5 million for power plant upgrades
ALBANY - The state is offering $14.5 million in incentives for power plants to become cleaner and more efficient.
The money comes from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a carbon cap-and-trade program that charges fossil fuel-burning power plants for the carbon dioxide they emit. The new incentive program is administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Examples of eligible technologies include boiler controls, advanced burners, turbine retrofits, waste-heat recovery, and in-facility electrical load reduction and efficiency improvements.
Up to $2 million will be available per project. As part of the criteria for funding, projects must be replicable as part of the effort to promote similar cleaner energy delivery projects across New York and support the growth of these market-ready technologies.
