Guinea's hotel industry most affected by Ebola crisis

The Philippine Star

CONAKRY (Xinhua) - Guinea's hotel sector has been severely affected by the persistence of Ebola epidemic with almost a 10 percent drop in the number of customers, a source from the tourism ministry said on Sunday.

Due to the losses suffered by hoteliers, operators met with Guinea's Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana last week to plead for government intervention to save the sector.

Another meeting between the two parties is scheduled to take place to agree on ways the government can help the sector which had started experiencing some economic boom just before the outbreak the epidemic.

So far, 523 Ebola cases have been confirmed in Guinea, with 380 deaths.
