Passenger plane crashes near Iran's capital, 40 killed

TEHRAN (Xinhua) - A passenger plane crashed on the outskirts of capital Tehran at 09:45 a.m.local time (0515 GMT) on Sunday and 40 people were killed, official IRNA news agency reported.

The Antonov-140 belonging to Sepahan Airlines was bound for Tabas city in eastern Iran.  

The plane crashed in Azadi township just 5 km to the west of the capital after taking off from Tehran's Mehrabad airport, according to semi-official Fars news agency.
