US chopper makes emergency landing in Japan

The Philippine Star

TOKYO — Japanese police say a U.S. military helicopter has made an emergency landing near Tokyo, injuring two crewmembers.

Kanagawa prefectural police said a U.S. Navy helicopter carrying four crewmembers made an emergency landing Monday at a landfill near Misaki Port, just west of Tokyo. Police say two were injured but their conditions were not immediately known.

In August, a U.S. military helicopter crashed on a southern island of Okinawa, killing four crewmembers and triggering calls for tighter safety measures.

About 50,000 American troops are stationed in Japan, about half of them on Okinawa.
