DAMASCUS (Xinhua) - The UN-Arab League Joint special envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, arrived in Syria Monday, wrapping up a regional tour aimed at garnering support for the upcoming Geneva II international conference on Syria.
Brahimi was received at the Syrian borders by Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.
The special envoy capped his regional tour with his visit to Syria, which aims at finalizing details regarding the commencement of Geneva II conference planned to start by the end of November.
The planned yet delayed conference is designed to bring the opposition and the government of Syria around the negotiation table to hammer out a political solution to the long-standing conflict.
