Car bomb kills 29 in northwest Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistani police say a suspected car bomb has killed at least 29 people near a police station in the northwestern city of Peshawar, site of a deadly church bombing last week.
Police officer Zahid Khan said the Sunday explosion appeared to have been a bomb planted in a parked car and detonated by remote control.
Jamil Shah, spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital, says 29 dead including six children and two women as well as 70 wounded have been brought to the hospital from the blast site.
Khan said the police station was some 300 meters (yards) from All Saints Church, targeted by two suicide bombers last weekend in an attack that killed 85 people.
