Angat Dam water rising close to minimum operating level
MALOLOS, Bulacan, Philippines — The water level in Angat Dam continued to improve, rising close to its minimum or normal operating level of 180 meters.
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the elevation in Angat was at 179.15 meters or only 85 centimeters below the normal operating level, according to Maria Teresa Serra, chief of the Angat Dam flood forecasting and warning division.
At normal operating level, Angat can supply sufficient water to Metro Manila households, provide irrigation water to palay farms in Central Luzon and generate power for the Luzon grid.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) announced that it is working with water concessionaires Manila Water Company Inc. and Maynilad Water Services Inc. to mitigate the effects of the coming El Niño phenomenon.
The MWSS said it is continuously monitoring the situation, and preparing mitigation and contingency measures to augment water supply.
Among the measures being implemented are the development of additional and alternative water sources, and limiting service interruptions caused by regular maintenace works.
The MWSS said public cooperation is essential for these initiatives to become successful.
