LA Galaxy ready to give fans a show
MANILA, Philippines - It may be an exhibition match, but the Philippine Azkals and the visiting LA Galaxy vow to leave a lasting impression to fans when they clash on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Some key members of both squads finally got to size each other up at the official prematch conference at the Pasay meeting room of Shangri-La Makati tonight.
Galaxy standouts Landon Donovan and David Beckham shared the dais with local bets Phil Younghusband, Chieffy Caligdong and Aly Borromeo in the well-attended press conference, each promising to go all-out and nail a win on Saturday.
"It's a friendly match but we want to win. Hopefully we will win," said Beckham, whose contract with the Galaxy is about to expire.
Beckham added he's still undecided on his future plans.
Azkals coach Michael Weiss said his wards are prepared for a competitive match.
"Hopefully they (Azkals) won't respect them (Galaxy) too much," he said.
Those who graced the conference include Philippine Football Federation president Nonong Araneta, LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena and Azkals manager Dan Palami.
Members of the LA Galaxy flew in today from Indonesia, wherein they posted a 1-0 win over the country's national squad yesterday.
They are set to conduct a football clinic at 1:30pm tomorrow at the Rizal Memorial Football Coliseum.
