Falcons set to soar high

- Alder Almo -

MANILA, Philippines – With the Adamson Falcons' steady rise in men’s basketball, the San Marcelino-based school is looking forward to fortify their other sports program.

The Falcons are currently occupying the second spot with 6-2 win-loss record behind reigning three-peat champion Ateneo Blue Eagles’ immaculate 8-0 mark.

With the support of their alumni group, Adamson is now planning to fill up their other sports program to finally contend for the general championship.

“In two year’s time, we’re hoping to fill up all the UAAP events,” said Ma. Luisa Isip, Adamson’s Director for Office of Athletics and Recreation.

Last season, Adamson only competed in seven out of the 14 UAAP events emerging as champions in women’s basketball, beach volleyball and softball. They have also been competing in baseball, judo, badminton, chess and volleyball.

This season, Adamson will finally be fielding in a team in the table tennis and track and field seniors event.

Isip added that the school is already forming teams in swimming and football in time for next season to be hosted by National University.

“The recruitment field has become stiffer than before. Now, we see NU emerging as one of the major player when it comes to recruitment. We would like to match that and our alumni group has been supportive. We have gone to the provinces and even abroad to find talents,” Isip said.

Adamson President Rev. Fr. Gregorio Bañaga Jr. C.M. lauded the efforts of their athletes and coaches.

“Slowly but surely, Adamson is soaring this season. We have high hopes in our men’s basketball team following their strong showing in the first round and we’re also proud of our softbelles, which formed half of the Team Manila, who ended runner up in the Big League World Series in Michigan,” Fr. Bañaga said.

“Right now, they are being hosted by our alumni in Los Angeles to enjoy a few days vacation before going home,” Fr. Bañaga added.

Also this season, the school successfully launched their UAAP Season Pass to their alumni and supporters. A Diamond Pass is pegged at P50,000 while a Gold Pass is sold for P25,000.

The Diamond Pass is consist of 57 Patron tickets to the Adamson games, 2 tickets to the Cheerdance Competition, lifetime Alumni ID, two exclusive invites to the Annual Appreciation Dinner, a plaque of recognition and other exclusive school merchandise.
