What is the rhythm of your run?

- Philip Ocampo, Cris Cayanan and Karen Principe -

“You have songs that give you like, some magic, everytime you hear them,” Ani Karina de leon, Philippines’ National Women’s Triathlon Champion and one of the very few Filipinos who successfully completed the Ironman Kona in Hawaii tells more about what music has to do with her running and biking.

“When I race, I like to listen to all of my favorite songs. I have race songs so I also have a playlist for that. And so before the start, I’m definitely listening to my favorite music.”

“If I don’t switch the playlist, I do get tired of them and i don’t want that to happen.” “That’s why the multiple playlist function is very good.”

De Leon fondly shares that she has a dance music playlist which is more upbeat and lively, something that she plays in her Ipod when doing a fast type of workout.

Joan Pallones, one of the top 21k finisher in the last philstar.com Christmas Celebrity Run, dreams of competing for the national team in the near future. Joan started running 3 years ago, won in several marathons, and is now doing road and trail races.

Joan works on a regular training with her coach, Mario Canja of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), a former marathon champ.

What’s on her mind when running? “To get to the finish line na hindi ka pagod that you wanted to run more. Iyon ang importante, na hindi ka madadala na mag-run or mag-training pa.”

To help her keep the adrenaline pump and makes her keep going while running, she listens to songs of hip hop and hard metal genre and those with lyrics “don’t stop”.

Nina Infortuno-Camacho who has been running and joining various marathons for 6 months already, recently level-up her running performance in the last Condura Run from 5k to 10k. Keeping her company is her full featured Apple iPod Shuffle which now comes in 3G and can store up to 4GB or over 1,000 songs.

“Well, I have about 3 Lady Gaga songs inside but what pushed me now is Beyonce’s Single Ladies!”, Camacho, referring to her “motivational” song for her first-time 10k run.
