PALO, Leyte, Philippines — This town is hosting the three-day 7th Regional Business Conference of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) at the Oriental Hotel in Barangay Baras, just few meters from the historic MacArthur Memorial Land Park here.

PCCI Tacloban-Leyte chapter president and Palo Councilor Wilson Uy told The FREEMAN that Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez will be the keynote speaker during the opening ceremonies today.

Uy said Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, Palo Mayor Remedios Petilla, PCCI National President George Barcelon, PCCI Governor for Eastern Visayas Robert Castañares, and other local officials will deliver their messages during the opening program.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, former Energy secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla, Presidential Consultant Joey Concepcion, and other officials from the national government are also expected to address the crowd.

Uy said the regional business conference with around 500 participants and delegates from various chambers of Leyte and Samar aims to promote Eastern Visayas as a business destination and endorse the business potential of the region.

He said outlook for the business sector in Leyte and Samar is good since the region has already recovered from the devastation brought about by super typhoon Yolanda last November 8, 2013, which crippled businesses in the region, particularly in Leyte. (FREEMAN)
