2 prexy bets from Negros Oriental disqualified

Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Elections has disqualified two presidential candidates from Negros Oriental, declaring them as nuisance candidates and barred from running in the May 2016 elections.

Negros Oriental provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba said he received lately a copy of the Comelec resolution disqualifying the two: Nicandro Pitos and Vetellano Acosta from Tanjay City of the province.

Aba said very little was known about the two who filed their respective certificates of candidacy in Manila for the position of president of the Philippines.

The Comelec earlier declared as nuisance 100 of the 125 presidential candidates who filed their COCs for the 2016 polls.

Meanwhile, the provincial COMELEC office has not received any updates regarding the petitions for disqualification of certain candidates in Negros Oriental.

Aba explained his office merely assisted in facilitating the papers in the filing of petitions against at least three candidates for disqualification: re-electionist Governor Roel Degamo, gubernatorial bet Walter Gasendo and Henry Sojor, who is seeking election for the position of congressman of the 3rd district.

Aba said his office has so far received notices of hearing for the petitions that are now pending at the Comelec central office. These petitions will, however, not affect the candidacy of the subjects for disqualifications, he added. (FREEMAN)
