VP bet Robredo visits Negros Oriental, Siquijor

Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Camarines Sur Representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, the ruling Liberal Party’s candidate for vice president in the 2016 elections, visited the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor Friday to meet with supporters and attend various activities in what appeared to be the start of her campaign trail.

Robredo, at a press conference, announced that she was visiting not to campaign as yet since the campaign period has not officially started, but to introduce herself to those who do not know her well.

The press conference, held at the residence of Atty. Felipe Antonio Remollo, former Dumaguete mayor who is making a comeback for the same position in the 2016 polls, was attended by city and barangay officials.

The widow of the late secretary Jesse Robredo of the Department of Interior and Local Government stressed that she will share her platform of government as that of Liberal Party standard bearer and former DILG secretary Mar Roxas.

The platform will be anchored on Daang Matuwid or Straight Path, the slogan of the administration of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for good governance and reform agenda.

According to her, the administration’s Daang Matuwid has achieved a great deal, however, there is a need to enhance this at the lower levels of society.

Representative Robredo explained she would be pushing for inclusive growth and equal opportunity, putting premium on rural development so that no one shall be left behind.

Robredo was accompanied by Senator Paulo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV and former Department of Justice secretary Leila De Lima on her visit here.

They first went to Siquijor for the proclamation of Liberal Party official candidates there before staying overnight in Dumaguete City.

Apart from a series of small meetings with supporters, Robredo and her party also graced the lighting up of the Christmas tree in Siaton town, about an hour’s drive south of here, alongside Negros Oriental’s third district Representative Pryde Henry Teves and second district Representative George Arnaiz. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
