Fireman hurt as fire razes two rooms of university

Marchel P. Espina - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A fireman was injured when a fire razed two rooms of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in this city Thursday evening.

Fire Officer 1 Rodson Malunes sustained some burns while trying to put out the fire that hit the school’s Home Economics Lab and the Retreat House, which was built more than 60 years ago.

Senior Inspector Publio Plotena, acting City Fire Marshal, said part of the building, made of light materials, was renovated three years ago and then used as Language Center for foreign students.

Probers were still determining the cause of the fire, which left an estimated damage of P300,000, he said.
