CEBU, Philippines - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines had donated seven three-classroom school buildings to seven towns in Leyte that were devastated by Yolanda in 1013.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, who led in the turn-over ceremonies, told The Freeman the school buildings, costing a total of P22.4 million, consisted of two for high schools in Tanauan and Tolosa towns and five for elementary schools in Isabel, Capoocan, Carigara, Jaro and Palo.
Nelson Cabangon, NGCP head of corporate affairs, said the buildings were designed and constructed to withstand strong earthquakes and super typhoons. Each building, erected on an elevated ground to avoid floodwaters, has a capacity of at least 30 pupils or students and furnished with desks and other facilities.
Cabangon added that the construction of the school buildings was done in partnership with four electric cooperatives in Leyte.
