SAGBAYAN, BOHOL, Philippines – A 43-year-old man and his 14-year-old daughter on Monday were ambushed and killed in this town by still unidentified gunmen, who also robbed the victims of an estimated P60,000 cash.
Police identified the fatalities as Eutemio Agunza Muñez and his daughter, Flora Mae, a 2nd year high school student.
“Eutemio Muñez sustained one gunshot wound on his chest, right jaw and a part of his right ear” while her daughter was hit on her right chest with two gunshot wounds and one on her right jaw. They did not make it to the hospital,” a police spot report stated.
Police said the two were traveling on their motorcycle (plate no. 4762 YC) on their way to their home in Catigbian town of Bohol, when attacked along the national highway at Barangay Santa Catalina of Sagbayan.
Initial police findings said a tree branch was put up as a blockade on the highway that caused the victim’s motorcycle to crash to its side, and then the assailants shot the two to death.
The scene has been known to be the site of various ambuscades by the New People’s Army years ago. It is not far from where the military and police forces were ambushed to death and the brand new car of former Sagbayan Mayor Jimmy Torrefranca was torched.
A separate police report said that the cash robbed by the assailants could be more than P200,000. Muñez was a businessman of a construction supply store and had just collected sales proceeds of the day before. “It was a case of robbery and double homicide,” added the police.
