College student commits suicide over school woes

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A college student in Iloilo City allegedly took his own life due to undisclosed problems in school.

Joshua Mitchell Labrador, 19, a Hotel and Restaurant Management student of the St. Therese College, was found dead with a rope tied around his neck and hanged on the ceiling.

Labrador's body was discovered by his boardmate, Tessa Marie Roga, at around 5:30 a.m. Friday at the dirty kitchen of their boarding house at the Urban Poor relocation site in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur of Arevalo district in Iloilo City.

Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin, Arevalo Police chief, said Labrador left a note at his cabinet. But his younger brother Rex, who also shared room with him, took it and brought it home at Barangay Tolarucan in Mina town of Iloilo.

“We were just told the victim reasoned school problems have prompted him to take his life, but we are yet to know the details,” Querubin said. — Jennifer P. Rendon (FREEMAN)
