Riding-in-tandem men shot balikbayan dead

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Riding-in-tandem suspects shot dead a vacationing balikbayan man at Purok Progreso in Barangay Sum-ag, this city, on Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as 46-year-old Bernard Jereza of Washington D.C., USA, who was gunned down by unidentified gunmen with a .45-caliber firearm near the house of his uncle, Ricardo Jereza.

Police said Bernard succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to his back and chest and was declared dead on arrival when brought to a hospital.

Ricardo said his nephew was in the city to visit the tomb of the latter’s father, and was scheduled to fly back to the US last Thursday. Police are still investigating the incident. —Marchel P. Espina (FREEMAN)
