Man hacks neighbor dead for P150 debt
CEBU, Philippines - A 52-year-old bachelor was killed Tuesday night after he was repeatedly hacked inside his own house at Barotac Nuevo town in Iloilo.
Nicolas Paciente, a resident of Barangay Tiwi, was preparing to go to sleep when his neighbor, Ramil Belalo, barged inside and struck the victim’s leg, face and arm with a 22-inch bolo.
The victim was rushed to the town’s hospital where he was given initial medical treatment.
He was later rushed to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to Inspector Sullen Domingo, Barotac Nuevo Police chief, Belalo went to Paciente to ask the former to pay his P150 debt. But the victim begged off that he had no money to pay yet.
The suspect left the house and had a drinking spree with some friends. After some shots of liquor, Belalo went back and attacked Paciente. He immediately fled and remains at large, as of press time. —Jennifer P. Rendon (FREEMAN)
