DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines —Geothermal giant Energy Development Corporation is set to inaugurate today its 40-megawatt Nasulo geothermal power plant in Valencia town of Negros Oriental.
EDC’s latest addition to the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field, which operates the 192.5 MW Palipinon I and II geothermal power plants, is seen to boost the demand for power supply in the Visayas region, according to Dwight Maxino, SNGP head and EDC vice president for Negros.
Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla, Governor Roel Degamo, Valencia town Mayor Edgar Teves, EDC chairman and CEO Federico Lopez, EDC President Richard Tantoco will lead the inauguration rites and the unveiling of the marker at the power plant site at sitio Nasuji in Barangay Puhagan of Valencia.
Maxino added that this latest geothermal power plant, while not totally addressing the projected power supply deficit in the country next year, will contribute to minimize the effects of such shortage. —Judy Flores Partlow (FREEMAN)
