WV's airports monitored for Ebola virus

CEBU, Philippines - Two international airports in Western Visayas, particularly in Iloilo City and Kalibo in Aklan, are now being monitored by the Department of Health-Region 6 to prevent the deadly Ebola virus from entering the region, even if none of such case has been recorded in the country yet.

DOH-6 director Marlyn Convocar said the airports are equipped with thermal scanners to detect passengers with fever, which is one of the symptoms of Ebola infectation, including sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, among others.

With the help of the Bureau of Quarantine, the DOH-6 is now keeping watch on all passengers arriving at the international airports in the region by providing them with health information checklist.

Convocar further said the DOH-6 had advised those coming from abroad, especially if they have the symptoms, to submit themselves to quarantine officers detailed at the airport.  (FREEMAN)
