2 sexagenarians killed, boy hurt in shooting
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two people were dead while a 3-year-old was hurt in a shooting incident at purok Crotons in Barangay Old Sagay of Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Jose Edel Manzano, chief of the Sagay City Police Office, identified the fatalities as 61-year-old Teody Azucena and 63-year-old Leopoldo Almension, both residents of the barangay.
Manzano said Almension went to the house of Azucena to settle an old grudge. Upon reaching the latter’s house, Almension tried to shoot Azucena’s wife who was able to run to her husband for help.
Azucena was however shot dead by Almension who, in turn, went into hiding in a neighbor’s house when the police responded to the scene.
There was an exchange of gunfire between Almension and the police, resulting in the wounding of the 3-year-old boy. The police eventually shot Almension dead with gunshot wounds on his neck and body.
Recovered from the crime scene were the suspect’s .45-caliber pistol, empty cartridges and a magazine of the pistol loaded with live ammunitions, a bolo and two kitchen knives. (FREEMAN)
