Dumaguete marks AIDS Memorial Day

Syril G. Repe - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The annual candle lighting activity will be held at 4p.m. today at the Quezon Park in this city for AIDS Memorial Day observance.

City Health Officer Maria Sarah Talla said the candle lighting is dedicated to all AIDS victims who already died and to their families and communities. It also shows support to those who are suffering from HIV and make the public aware of the need to combat the disease or prevent its spread.

A report by the National Epidemiology Center said that, as of last March, the Philippines had about 18,000 HIV-positive patients with 16 new reported cases daily.
