Firearms seized in clash w/ rebels
BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — Suspected members of the New People's Army clashed with the army troopers in Barangay Amontay, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, Friday morning.
Major Ray Tiongson, Public Affairs Office head of the 3rd Infrantry Division of the Philippine Army, said that the army troopers of the 11th Infantry Battalion were conducting a security patrol after reports that lawless elements reportedly threatened and intimidated the civilian to give in to their extortion demands.
The clash, which lasted 20 minutes, resulted to the recovery of one .357 caliber revolver pistol with six live ammunition, homemade shotgun with one magazine and two live ammunition and one backpack containing subversive documents of high intelligence value.
No reported casualty on the government forces while the NPA believed to have been wounded after pursuing troops saw bloodstains, Tiongson said.
"We acknowledge the efforts of the residents of Binalbagan for providing us the report and for ensuring that their community is away from any threat and intimidation of these lawless elements," Brig. General Francisco Patrimonio, commander of 302nd Brigade said. /JMD (FREEMAN)
