Fire destroys P1.2M worth of property

ILOILO CITY , Philippines   â€”  Some P1.2 million worth of property was destroyed by fire that hit a vintage residence that doubly served as a boarding house at Barangay Bantud in Lapaz district of this city, Sunday afternoon.

Arson probers from the local Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire, which broke out at about 5 p.m., razed the vintage house owned by Natividad Lumague, according to a PNA report.

The concrete wall surrounding the structure prevented the spread of the fire to a row of neighboring residential houses.

It was learned that the house caretaker, Cherie Paglinawan, was not around when the fire broke out while the house owner is now residing in a flush subdivision elsewhere in Iloilo City.

Initial findings made by a team of arson probers showed that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit owing to the already old electrical wiring.

No one was reported hurt in the fire that was extinguished by responding city firefighters barely 30 minutes later.  (FREEMAN)
