Drugs shipped via courier intercepted

CEBU, Philippines -  The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-6 has intercepted a package that contained more than P1 million worth of shabu sent through courier company LBC yesterday afternoon.

In a report over MBC Aksyon Radyo, the package of shabu weighing 276.4 grams was placed a radio and placed in a box.

Authorities arrested Romana de la Cruz , 46, of  Barangay Cuartero, Jaro, lloilo City, after she picked up the package at the LBC office in Pavia town.

Before the arrest, PDEA personnel conducted a buy-bust operation and successfully bought a sachet of shabu worth P1,000 from de la Cruz.

De la Cruz, who claimed to be working as househelp of Anna Prevendido-Penecilla of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, allegedly admitted that it was the 17th shipment she picked up at LBC.

The package was sent from Cavite province.

According to reports, Penecilla hired tricycle driver Shelcar Batilles to accompany de la Cruz in picking up the package.

Both de la Cruz and Batilles were arrested and are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

More than a week ago, PDEA operatives also arrested a 20-year-old woman after she claimed a package containing around P12 million worth of shabu from LBC in Iligan City.

Ashlea Sambatore of  Bobung, Lanao del Norte picked up the package of about a kilo of suspected shabu placed and hidden inside a component speaker that was sent from Bataan.

A week ago, operatives of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office also seized a quarter of a kilo of shabu worth P1.2 million in a buy- bust operation at Barangay Bacabac, Sara, Iloilo.  (FREEMAN)
