DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Priests of the Diocese of Dumaguete, many of whom were in their positions for eight years, have been transferred to their new assignments in the different parishes and other posts.
Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes made the official announcement following the concelebrated Chrism Mass Tuesday morning at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, where at least 90 diocesan priests as well as from the different religious orders were present.
The Chrism Mass is held every Holy Tuesday of each year for the anointing of the holy oils used in administering sacraments such as baptism. It is also on this day that the renewal of vows of the priests is being held.
Cortes told The Freeman it took him months of consultations about the reshuffle with the priests, the parish pastoral councils and other individuals and groups since he was installed as bishop last December 5.
The priests, who are scheduled to transfer to their new assignments between April 21 and May 2, are as follows: Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing as vicar general; Rev. Fr. Lyndon Zerna (oeconomus); Rev. Fr. Carmelito Limbaga, Jr. (chancellor); and Rev. Msgr. Merlin Logronio (moderator curiae).
The new episcopal vicars for the districts are: Rev. Msgr. Glenn Corsiga for north district (Sibulan town to Jimalalud); Rev. Msgr. Robert Bongoyan for south district (Valencia to Basay); and Rev. Msgr. Candelario for Siquijor district.
