For Yolanda survivors town in Leyte to construct 1,200 houses

Primo A. Cayubit - The Freeman

TANAUAN, LEYTE, Philippines - — Mayor Pelagio Tecson had announced that the local government will construct a total of 1,200 houses for the survivors of Yolanda in this town.

Tecson said the houses, which will be for the typhoon survivors who were affected by the no-build zone policy in their areas, will be constructed in three permanent resettlement sites.

"The units will be constructed in row houses and the resettlement sites will have concrete roads, light and water and drainage system," said Tecson, adding that each unit will be a concrete one-storey house with an area of 4 meters x8 meters or 32 square meters in size.

He said there are now two sites that the LGU had identified for the construction of these houses: One is in Barangay Pago, with an area of 2.4 hectares for 360 houses, and the other is in Brgy. Mabini with an area of three hectares to accommodate 420 houses.

Tecson told The Freeman that the third site, yet to be determined by the LGU, will have 420 houses to be constructed.

An initial list of 1,168 displaced families in this town-living in the no-build zone areas and have to be relocated in these resettlement areas-has been named. "Identification of more families to be relocated is still going on," Tecson added.  (FREEMAN)
