New NBI chief is a Boholano

TAGBILARAN CITY — The appointment of lawyer Virgilio Mendez-a native of Barangay Bayongan in San Miguel town of Bohol as new director of the National Bureau of Investigation has given pride to the Boholanos.

In acknowledgment of such achievement, the Provincial Peace and Order Council, in a meeting presided by Gov. Edgar Chatto, approved a resolution commending Mendez.

Before his new post, Mendez served as deputy director for regional operations and regional director of the NBI in Region 10.

He was one of the NBI deputy directors reportedly endorsed by Justice Sec. Leila de Lima to Pres. Benigno Aquino III, to be retained following the courtesy resignation of top-ranked officials because of the agency's alleged link to corruption and abuses.

On July 22, 2012, Mendez was honored one of the outstanding Boholanos during Bohol Day celebration. (FREEMAN)
