Widow, 75, found stabbed to death

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – A 75-year-old widow, Perpetua Cutamura, was found dead and bathed in her own blood in the living room of her house in Brgy. Punta of this city, yesterday morning.

Three teenagers, who were living with the victim, found her body and informed their neighbor who in turn reported the matter to the police.

Police Officer 3 Mervin Colibao, told The Freeman that Cutamura had eight stab wounds from a 10-inch knife and died on the spot. “The killing occurred at 8: 30 pm of January 1 (the night before her body was found). The suspect is a 30-year-old male from San Francisco in Camotes, Cebu,” he said.

Colibao said investigators are now looking into a robbery–homicide angle. “The suspect tried to borrow money, but the victim refused, thus, the killing,” he said, adding that initial investigation showed that some properties and the hand bag of the victim were missing with other things scattered.

The three teenagers narrated that at 8 p.m. on Jan. 1, the suspect, whom they knew was the brother of Cutamura’s daughter-in-law, came to the house carrying a knife. He was with an unidentified man introduced as someone from Villaba, Leyte.

The three had to leave the house out of fear from the leering of the suspects on them. They went to a church across the house and spent the night there. When they returned yesterday morning, they found Cutamura dead.
