Power back in three E.Samar towns

CEBU, Philippines - Government may have failed to restore power in some parts of Eastern Samar on Dec. 24, but on Christmas Day, this was accomplished in the towns of Salcedo, Mercedes and Guiuan in Eastern Samar, an ABS-CBN News report said yesterday.

Electricity was back in many parts of Salcedo, especially at the Municipal Hall. This was also the case at Mercedes and Guiuan towns.

For Domingo Bagason of Salcedo, it was the best Christmas gift he received. “Pagbalik namin binuksan ko na ulit, meron na, tuwang-tuwa ako,” he said

Salcedo Mayor Melchor Melgar believed that Petilla should not resign if he didn’t meet his own deadline. “Siguro intindihin natin kasi malaking obligasyon at saka wag naman sana sa mga panahon na ito,” he said.

Failing to restore power in typhoon hit areas before Christmas was the reason why Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla tendered his resignation to the president, who in turn rejected it and retained him to the post. (FREEMAN)
