Fish, chicken, eggs shortage in Negros Occ
BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A shortage of fish, chicken and eggs now looms in Negros Occidental as an aftermath of typhoon Yolanda, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Tuesday.
The governor revealed that a number of fishermen, especially in northern Negros, which was battered by the typhoon, lost their fishing boats.
Marañon said fishponds were also destroyed by the typhoon and recovery may take a few months.
On Monday, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said Negros Occidental is expected to face shortage in egg and chicken supply after Yolanda devastated Bantayan Island in Cebu where Negros Occidental gets 50 percent of its egg and chicken supplies.
Marañon said the Capitol, in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry, has been monitoring prices of basic commodities in the province. “We would like to appeal to businessmen not to take advantage of the situation,†he added. (FREEMAN)
