Negros Oriental-PNP secures Undas

Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - — The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office has been on full alert since yesterday as people travelled to their hometowns and provinces for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

OIC provincial police director Supt. Alet Virtucio said all regular police personnel are on mandatory duty to secure vital installations, entry and exit points such as the airport and sea ports, passenger bus terminals and cemeteries.

The policemen are however on rotation duty to allow them to also visit the graves of their departed family members, he said, adding that police assistance desks were set up in cemeteries around the province while foot and mobile patrols have been deployed.

Virtucio assured the public of enough policemen on duty to ensure public safety, under the Oplan Undas implementation. He said police stations undertake tighter security to prevent a repeat of the raid of the NPA in La Libertad town during All Souls' Day several years ago.

In this city, the Traffic Management Office and the PNP's Highway Patrol Group are assisting the police for control of traffic flow to and from the cemeteries, he said, while warning the public against gambling, drinking alcoholic beverages and playing loud music at cemeteries.  (FREEMAN)
