MassKara Festival winners named

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Barangay 16 was declared grand champion in the street and arena dance competition for the barangay category during the finale of  the 20-day MassKara Festival in this city Sunday.

After winning in 1991, Brgy. 16, now with eagle-inspired costumes, headdresses and masks, bested 18 other competing barangays to take the championship trophy and P100,000 cash prize. Trained by Segundo Jesus Cabalcar, it also earned Best in Mask and Best in Choreography awards.

First runner-up was Brgy. Cabug, winning P75,000 cash and the Best in Concept award, 2nd runner-up was Brgy. Alijis with P50,000 prize and the Best in Costume award, 3rd runner-up was Brgy. 22 and 4th runner-up was Brgy. 15.

In the schools category held last Oct. 18, the Bata National High School and Abkasa Elementary School were champions in the high school and elementary categories, respectively.

Bata NHS also won Best in Costume, Best in Concept and Best in Choreography awards, while Abkasa ES also romped off with the Best in Concept award. — (FREEMAN)
