Mayor foresees Maasin a highly urbanized city

MAASIN CITY, S. LEYTE, Philippines — The city government has started eyeing the raising of this city into a highly urbanized status.

“Although being a highly urbanized city is a futuristic view, preparations for its eventual growth into a highly urbanized one should start now,” Mayor Maloney Samaco said in a PIA-8 report.

In a press conference held during the 13th Charter Day anniversary celebration last August 10, Samaco said Maasin is now beginning to feel the problems of a highly urbanized city where traffic is getting heavy, garbage rapidly increasing and informal settlers mushrooming, among others.

The theme for the Charter Day celebration this year was, “Agenda 13: Steering toward the vision of a highly urbanized Maasin City.”

Samaco said the city government, before the end of his term, should put into place safety nets to cope with the influx of people by buying more traffic lights to ease the flow of traffic and constructing more drainage around the city, among others. —(FREEMAN)
