DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - Governors Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental and Edgar Chatto of Bohol led the signing of commitment among LGU executives on disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation.
The signing on Thursday was done during the culmination of the three-day Region 7's disaster risk reduction and management summit conducted in Cebu City.
At least 14 mayors and other officials from Negros Oriental attended the summit, which was aimed at strengthening further existing contingency plans and undertaking pro-active stance on climate change concerns.
The Negros Oriental mayors were from the towns of Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Dauin, Bacong, Valencia, San Jose, Amlan, Manjuyod, Bindoy, Ayungon, Jimalalud and Vallehermoso and the cities of Dumaguete and Tanjay.
Negros Oriental Capitol information officer Adrian Sedillo, who was among the participants, said the summit that ended last Friday was organized by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (through the Office of Civil Defense and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Sedillo said the focal points of discussion during the summit include the roles of chief executives on disaster risk reduction, incident command system and utilization of disaster preparedness funds, among others. (FREEMAN)
