Montesa Griño-Caoyonan - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – One death out of 36 leptospirosis cases was recorded by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) from January 1 to June 8 this year.

Assistant provincial health officer Maria Socorro Quiñon said the fatality was recorded in Janiuay town while the other cases were in the towns of Cabatuan with six; Dingle, Dumangas, Pototan and Santa Barbara (three each);  Janiuay, Leon, Miagao and Mina (two each); Alimodian, Badiangan, Barotac Viejo, Bingawan, Calinog, Oton, San Rafael, Sara, Tubungan and Zarraga (one each).

Quiñon advised the public not to wade on dirty water as leptospirosis cases were increasing in the province, even if the number was lower than in the same period last year (11 deaths and 126 cases).  (FREEMAN)
