Jail escapee surrenders, 6 others remain at-large
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — After the recapture of six of the 13 inmates who bolted the Sagay City District Jail last Wednesday, one of the remaining fugitives surrendered last Sunday, leaving six others still at-large.
Rey Villanueva, 28, who was facing drug charges, surrendered to the Sagay City Police station at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, according to Sr. Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, acting Negros Occidental Police director.
Villanueva was the one who disarmed jail guard Joever Valenzuela with his .38 caliber revolver, while another inmate, Rolando Bajo Jr., 22, was pointing a gun at the guard.
De la Paz said Villanueva's surrender was facilitated by Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva and Councilor Donator Marañon.
Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region-6 spokesperson, said the manhunt continues for the remaining six escapees, some of whom have already sent surrender feelers. The BJMP-6 has put up P10,000 bounty for each of them.
BJMP-6 director Sr. Supt. Ignacio Panti assured the families of the six escapees, still at large, that they will not be hurt if they surrender. (FREEMAN)
