DUMAGUETE CITY , Philippines – At least four people were killed instantly and four others were hospitalized after a wayward dump truck plowed straight into another parked truck and a multicab in Bindoy, Negros Oriental over the weekend.

A police report identified the fatalities as Macmac Erwin Barrera of Bindoy, driver of the blue Isuzu dump truck, and his passengers, Auster Bailoces of Brgy. Cabcaban in Bindoy, Angel Balasabas, 44, of Manjuyod town, and Rene Boy Academia of Brgy. Cabugan, also in Bindoy.

Bindoy Police chief, Sr. Insp. Eddie Gravador, said initial investigation showed that the dump truck, loaded with lumber, was heading towards the town proper at around 9:40 p.m. Sunday when it lost its brakes.

The driver tried to maneuver the truck but to no avail as it rammed into the other cargo truck and the multicab and dragged the two vehicles in its path, the police report said, adding that the vehicles were totally wrecked due to the impact of the collision.

Four others who were injured were also brought to the hospital: Mary Ereje, Alquer Montecino, Randy Chavez and Gerald Casido.  (FREEMAN)
