ILOILO CITY , Philippines   â€“ A woman working as a secretary of a Korean school in Iloilo City was put under police’s custody for several hours after cracking a bad joke at a hotel in this city where President Benigno Aquino III was staying.

Jane, 21, who hails from Brgy. Mandalagan in Bacolod City, was about to enter the main lobby of the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center along Gen. Luna St., this city, at around 6:30 p.m. last February 20, when she blurted out that her friend’s bag had a bomb in it.

“It was supposed to be a joke among them because they have known the security guards for sometime already,” said Sr. Supt. Ruperto Floro, Iloilo City Police director.

Jane has been staying at the hotel for about a year already. At the time of the incident, she was with four friends, all teachers of the Korean school, located at the hotel premises.

When Jane uttered the bomb joke, a female member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) posted nearby overheard it prompting the authorities to inspect the bag of her companion. They found nothing about the bomb, but Jane was taken to Police Station 1 for investigation.

Iloilo City PS1 chief Supt. Kim Legada said Jane was released at around 10 p.m. that same day after she was able to produce documents that she was an employee of the Korean school.  (FREEMAN)
