Rebecca S. Cadavos - The Freeman

MAASIN CITY, Philippines  â€” The Philippine National Police in this city conducted a peace covenant signing yesterday (Feb. 16) at the Lady’s Assumption Parish Cathedral in this capital city of Southern Leyte province.

City Police head, Supt. Erwin Fernandez, said the event was participated by candidates for mayor, vice mayor and councilor.

“The signing of the peace pact was aimed at securing a safe and fair elections (SAFE) 2013,” said Fernandez, adding that it was also an effort to ensure an honest and peaceful conduct of elections, not only at the local level but throughout the country.

Fernandez informed that, at the provincial level, the covenant signing was undertaken by the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office, and municipal counterparts will also replicate the same.

Previously, a unity walk and prayer rally was done last January, in coordination with the Comelec, DILG and national line agencies and non-government organizations. (FREEMAN)
