Lalaine Jimenea - The Freeman

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – Candidates running for various positions in the city government and in the 4th district of Leyte have gathered together yesterday to sign a peace convenant, with them swearing to abide by election laws, pursue a high level campaign with limitations only on issues and not character assassination, and refrain from “deceit” and “dishonesty”, among others.

The peace covenant signing was a joint initiative of the City Police, the Philippine Army, the Comelec and the DILG.

Present in the signing were Mayor Eric Codilla, who is running for Congress against reelectionist Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez, Edward Codilla who is running for city mayor against Lucy’s husband Richard, mayoralty bet Marcos Larrazabal, vice mayoralty bets Leo Carmelo Locsin and Claudio Larrazabal and the candidates for city councilor from various parties.

Lucy and Richard were unable to attend but sent their regrets, citing their commitment to attend the Liberal Party’s proclamation rally at Plaza Miranda, headed by President Noynoy Aquino, also yesterday. (FREEMAN)
