Dumaguete joins Phl’s Rizal Day celebration
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The city government will lead its constituents in joining the rest of the country in celebrating the 116th death anniversary of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, on Sunday (Dec. 30) at the city’s Quezon Park.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Rizal 2012: Ehemplo ng Sambayanan para sa Tuwid na Daan.”
City hall employees, non- government organization as well as those of the national and local government agencies in the city, will gather for the local celebration that will start with simultaneous ringing of church bells, taps and sounding of sirens, volleys raising and waving of flaglets.
These will be followed by wreath laying at the base of the Rizal monument, led by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova, followed by the three legislators of Negros Oriental: Reps. Jocelyn Limkaichong (1st district), George Arnaiz (2nd dist.) and Pryde Henry Teves (3rd dist.).
The floral offerings will be done also by Governor Roel Degamo, Vice Governor Jun Arnaiz, Col. Francisco Patrimonio of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, Provincial Police director Sr. Supt. Edward Caranza, Dumaguete City Police head Supt. James Goforth, and City Fire Marshal, Chief Insp. Arnulfo Sayson, and top officials of schools and universities.
Next will be the raising of the Philippine flag followed by the ecumenical invocation led by Rev. Msgr. Julius Hereula and Rev. Jeremiahs Lagahit, Minister for Christian Witness and Services, Siliman University.
This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Reynaldo Rivera, School of Public Affairs and Governance, Silliman University. (FREEMAN)
